1. Parents of Sun God: In a mythological context, many references to the origin of Suryadev are found. According to the Puranas, the name of the Sun god’s father is Maharishi Kashyapa and the mother’s name is Aditi. Aditi’s sons have been called Adityas. The 33 deities include Aditi’s 12 sons whose names are as follows – Vivasvan (Surya), Aryama, Pusha, Tvashta, Savita, Bhag, Dhata, Vidhata, Varuna, Mitra, Indra, and Trivikrama (Lord Vamana).
In addition to the 12 Adityas, there is a class of 33 deities including 8 Vasu, 11 Rudras, and 2 Ashvinkumar. Kashyap was born to Brahmaji’s son Marichi. Vyasvan and Vivaswan’s sons were Vaivasta Manu from Kashyapa. Vivaswan is called Surya.

2. Wife-son: Vishwakarma’s daughter Sangya was the wife of Vivasvan. The Sun had three children from her, a daughter and two sons. First Prajapati Shraddhadeva, called Vaivasvata Manu, was born. Then Yama and Yamuna – these twins were born. The Yamuna was called Kalindi.
Sangya could not bear seeing the stunning image of Lord Surya. She created her own shadow to protect herself. She became known as Chhaya. Considering her as his wife, Surya had another son. He was like his elder brother Manu. Hence, Savarna became famous as Manu. That shadow led to a girl named Shanaishcher (Shani) and Tapati.
Yama rose to the rank of Dharmaraja and satisfied all subjects. Savarna Manu became Prajapati. They will be the masters of the upcoming Savarnik Manvantara. It is said that even today, he performs austerities at the peak of Merugiri. It is also said that when the Sangya left his shadow and started meditating in the form of a mare. When Lord Surya saw her meditating, he brought it back to himself.

3. The family of Surya: Vaivasvata Manu was born to Aditi’s son Vivasvan. Maharaja Manu received 10 superior sons named Ikshvaku, Nriga, Dhrishta, Sharyati, Narishyant, Pranshu, Nabhag, Dishta, Karusha, and Prajadhra. Surya also had many other sons. Kapiraj Sugriva in Tretayuga and Maharathi Karna in Dwapar are believed to have originated from the part of Lord Surya. Sri Krishna’s mother Devaki is said to be the ‘avatar of Aditi’.
The detailed story of the family of Lord Surya is described in Bhavishya Purana, Matsya Purana, Padma Purana, Brahma Purana, Markandeya Purana, and Sambapurana. All Suryavanshis are his children.

4. Other names: Ravi, Dinkar, Diwakar, Bhanu, Bhaskar, Prabhakar, Savita, Dinamani, Aditya, Anant, Martand, Arka, Kite, and Vivaswan. The nature of Sunday is Dhruva. Sunday is also the day of Lord Vishnu and Suryadev. In Hinduism, it is considered the best attack. Fasting should be done on Sunday to get good health and fastness.
5. Planets or Gods: Sun God is not only a planet but a deity. The Sun planet has been called the soul of the world in the Vedas. In some astrology texts and Puranas, these suns are also associated with Sun God while Sun God is believed to have been born on earth. According to another legend, Kashyap’s wife Aditi gave birth to a bright son after performing Surya Sadhana.
